This mag pouch design came about from an issue we noticed with many pouches not holding open enough to easily re-index after removing the magazine. It is manageable in daylight but the issue is exacerbated under night vision/Low light conditions. The Semi-rigid pouch remedies this issue by using Tegris® thermoplastic to hold the pouch open when empty. Although it is rigid it is malleable enough to compress when prone.
